Matsuo Basho Hand-Made Scroll

The model I created for my World History Honors class. The poem I used was a haiku written by Matsu Basho in the 1600's. I seem to have misplaced my English translation somewhere on my computer... So instead, I'll post the original kanji that I used as my source:

富士の風や扇にのせて江戸土産
馬に寝て残夢月遠し茶のけぶり
行はるや鳥啼うをの目は泪
山も庭もうごき入るや夏坐敷
有難や雪をかほらす南谷
石山の石より白し秋の風
四方より花吹入て鳰の海
猪もともに吹るる野分哉
三日月の地はおぼろ也蕎麦の花
しら露もこぼさぬ萩のうねり哉

My scroll is made out of three sheets of parchment paper, four sheets of plain manila paper, two 10" dowel rods, and hot glue, and double-sided sticky tape. D:

I wrote the kanji using a jar of Bombay India black ink and a traditional skinny paint brush. I have a horse-hair Chinese calligraphy brush, but it was much too thick for this size paper. x_x

The border is written with one of my thick black calligraphy pens, while the mountain is outlined with Bombay ink and colored with crayons. It's the same for the flower in the corner.

I decided to use a mountain as the main illustration because the poem actually includes the kanji for Mt. Fuji (or Fuji-san to the Japanese; Fuji --> 富士 ) and I thought it fit perfectly.

Doc gave me a 95 on this model; he only counted off because I didn't give him enough facts on my fact sheet that had to be 2 pages long. x__x There's only so much information about Matsuo Basho, scroll making, kanji, haiku, etc... That, or I only have so much motivation to do something perfectly.

Anyway, I worked really really hard to make this as special as possible. Hopefully I'll have time to make some more for AWA, if anyone would want to purchase some.

By the way... would you guys buy something like this if it was high quality and was at a reasonable price? Be honest.

Approximate construction time: 12 grueling hours x____x Not including the poster making and the factsheet writing...
